The KB article for this is missing, so I'm going to sticky this for reference:
If you are experiencing dropouts/distortion/pop clicks etc. with your firewire interface, and are using Windows 7, try changing to the legacy firewire driver (this is for your firewire adapter).
1. Disconnect your Firewire device, open Device Manager and find your Firewire adapter (START>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>).
2. Click "Update driver"
3. Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
4. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
5. Install the driver that ends with "(Legacy)".
6. Reinstall the latest version of your device drivers
