Crackling When Track Is Armed! Fed Up! Profire 2626

I've been having trouble for quite some time. I've searched all over the forum and the internet but haven't found a solution.

When I arm a track in any DAW/software I get really really extremely bad crackling. Sounds like the stereotypical digital clipping/distortion. This crackling is recorded to the audio file when tracking.

-When the track is not armed there is no crackling, audio is perfect.
-When I monitor directly from the DSP mixer there is no crackling.
-Playback, and recording virtual instruiments/midi works and sounds perfect.
-It has nothing to do with the buffer size. There is no change in amount of crackling when buffer ischanged.
-The Profire will record perfectly with my mates computer.
-I've completely wiped my computer and re-installed everything, drivers, sofware etc. but no success
-I've tried changing firewire cables/ports, no success.
-I've tried messing around with all the settings on the DSP mixer, but nothing.

I only found one other occurrance of this on the internet where the person suspected it was a chipset compatability issue with the DAWs. He suspected it was because he was using some sort of intel chipset. When he changed to an NVIDIA chipset it worked fine. I have some sort of intel chipset. My problem with this is that this problem only occurred 2 months ago. Up until then it was working perfectly.

Has anyone ever had to deal with this problem before? Suggestions would be massively appreciated. Im desperate for solutions!! Perhaps its some sort of clock issue?...I dont really know what Im talking about here:P

Im running Windows 7 on a Medion PC. QuadCore2 Q8800 2GHz. 4gig RAM.

Hope yous can help :)
