Hello from a new visitor ...!
For 7 years I have used my Firewire 1814 as firewire interface with a Powerbook running 10.4.11 and Logic 7, with few if any problems.
I have now added an old (same age as the PB) Mac Pro Dual 2.7 GHz G5. This has to run both 10.4.11 (because I have to run some classic applications), and, to be slightly more modern, 10.5.8, from different internal drives. A LaCie 1TB is attached to the Powerbook by normal firewire and to the G5 by 800 firewire, and the 1814 is in the chain with the LaCie. Both machines are never on at once.
Not sure exactly when it started (I got the G5 in September) but sometimes when I turn on the G5 in 10.4.11 mode, a small M Audio flag appears bottom left announcing that it is updating firmware, which will take about two minutes, and gives the GUI of D6C0410FDEA5A (not sure if those are O or 0). Unfortunately it doesn't take two minutes, it goes on as long as you would leave it, and at times, if I try to work with the flag still up it causes the computer to crash. Normally, if I try to restart the Mac it will hang.
It may be this happens after I have used the Powerbook, but that's not for sure. I only use it for recording so its not on so often.
Last night I went and got the uptodate drivers, and with the 1814 disconnected uninstalled and reinstalled them, though since there were two different ones for the different versions of OS that process may have got rather confused.
Additionally, last night working in my main classic application, I found it constantly crashing at the slightest thing, the whole classic environment in fact. Disconnecting the 1814 solved this.
So you can see I'm in a bit of a bind. Having the machine crash or hang so often is not just inconvenient, its bad for it over time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Stephen
PS I tried to follow the trick (Cmd S on startup) to find out the chip make but couldn't work it out!
